Creamy Coconut Chicken Curry  is a quick and easy recipe made with chicken cubes cooked in a flavorful and rich coconut cream based sauce. A tempering of cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, mustard seeds, dry red chilly, cumin seeds is given in the beginning to make the dish very flavorful and rich.

1. Heat oil, add mustard seeds

  • Vegetable oil – 1 Tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • dried chilly – 2
  • Bay leaves – 1
  • Cloves – 3
  • Cardamom -3
  • Cumin seeds – 3/4 Tsp
  • Onion – 1 cup, sliced
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Green chillies – 2 chopped
  • Turmeric powder – 1 Tps
  • Chilly powder 1 1/2 Tsp
  • Coriander powder -1/2 Tsp
  • Garam masala -1 Tsp
  • Chicken – 600 gms
  • Coconut cream or coconut milk – 1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste



  1. Heat up pt, add oil
  2. Add mustard seeds, let it crackle
  3. Then add bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, dried chilly.
  4. Cook for 30 seconds and add cumin seeds.
  5. Let it fry for another 30 seconds.
  6. Add sliced onions.
  7. Cook over slow heat and add salt to it.
  8. Cook for 2-3 minutes, add ginger and garlic paste.
  9. Add chopped green chilly.
  10. Let it cook for a minute.
  11. Now its time to add powdered spices such as turmeric, chilly, coriander  and garam masala.
  12. Cook over very slow flame until the raw smell goes off.
  13. Add chicken, turn the flame to high.
  14. Over a high heat cook for 3-4 minutes.
  15. Add hot water, let it come a boil.
  16. Once boiling, reduce the flame to simmer.
  17. Cover with a lid and cook till the chicken is done.
  18. Now add coconut cream or thick coconut mil.
  19. Simmer for 5 minutes or until the desired consistency.
  20. Adjust the seasoning and serve hot.
