Christmas Special Chicken Korma (also spelled as Kurma) recipe is very famous during Christmas celebrations in the state of Kerala. A very easy to make dish yet super delicious.

Chicken cubes are slow simmered in an onion and tomato based sauce with lots of whole and powdered spices then it is finished with yogurt.

Christmas Special Chicken Korma With Step By Step Photos..

1.Heat up oil, saute onion until soft.

2. Remove half of the onion and set aside for grinding.

3.Add whole spices to the same oil and cook for a minute

4.Add ginger-garlic paste, cook well

6.Add powdered spices and cook until the raw flavor goes off

8.Put lid and cook for 3-4 minutes

9.Add chicken and cook for 2-3 minutes over a high flame. Then cover with a lid and cook for 7-8 minutes.

10. Meantime, take cooked onion and yogurt in blender.

11.Blend to a smooth paste

12. Add the ground onion and yogurt to the chicken. Cook until done.

Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil – 1 Tbsp
  • Onion – 2, sliced
  • Cloves – 3 each
  • Bay leaves – 2 each
  • Black pepper corns – 1 Tsp
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 Tsp
  • Turmeric – 1/2 Tsp
  • Coriander powder – 2 Tsp
  • Chilly powder – 2 Tsp
  • Garam masala – 3/4 Tsp
  • Tomato – 2 medium, chopeed
  • Chicken – 750 gms, boneless
  • Yogurt – 2 Tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. Heat up a cooking vessel, add vegetable oil.
  2. Add onion and salt, cook until soft.
  3. Remove half of the onion and set aside for grinding.
  4. Add cloves, bay leaves and black pepper corns.
  5. Cook for a minute and add ginger-garlic paste.
  6. Cook for a minute.
  7. Now add the powdered spices and cook them on a low flame until the raw flavor goes off.
  8. Add diced, cover with a lid and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  9. Add chicken cubes and saute them on high flame for 2-3 minutes.
  10. Lower the flame to simmer, cover with a lid.
  11. Cook until chicken is almost done (7-8 minutes).
  12. In the meantime, take cooked onion and yogurt in a blender.
  13. Blend to a smooth paste.
  14. Make sure to remove the lid and stir at regular intervals to prevent it from sticking to the bottom.
  15. Now add the ground onion and yogurt paste.
  16. Mix well and cook until the desired consistency is achieved.
  17. Serve hot and enjoy your Chicken Korma.
