Soya Chunks Masala is an Indian dish made with soya chunks ,  sauted oniontomato and tasty blend of Indian spices and herbs. This rustic and homey dish is a hot favorite in India. The recipe I am going with you all today is a typical South Indian style take on these marvelous soya chunks.

Soya Chunks Masala is an excellent side dish for breakfast. Goes very well with appam, dosa and puttu. I have made this recipe little bit dry, but you can keep runny if you like it.

Soya Chunks Masala Recipe

Ingredients

  • Soya chunks – 500 gms
  • Coconut oil-1 Tbsp
  • Mustard seeds- 1/2 Tsp
  • Dry Chilly -2 halved
  • Curry leaves -1 sprig
  • Onion -2 medium, sliced
  • Tomato -2 medium, sliced
  • Ginger – 1 Tsp, chopped
  • Garlic – 1 Tsp, chopped
  • Green chilly -2 slit
  • Turmeric powder -1 Tsp
  • Chilly powder -1 Tsp
  • Coriander powder -1/2 Tsp
  • Garam Masala -1 Tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves -1 Tbsp, chopped

Directions

  1. Soak soya chunks in water for 30 minutes.
  2. In a skillet, heat coconut oil, splutter mustard seeds.
  3. Then add dry chilly and curry leaves.
  4. Add sliced onion, saute for a couple of minutes on medium high flame.
  5. Add chopped  ginger and garlic and continue to saute.
  6. Stir in powdered spices such as turmeric, chilly, coriander and garam masala  powder.
  7. Cook the spices well on a slow fire approximately  for 5 minutes.
  8. Mix in sliced tomatoes and continue to cook.
  9. Drain the soya chunks and set aside.
  10. Season with salt and add a tiny bit of water and cook until tomatoes are mushy.
  11.  Add the soya chunks at this stage, cover with lid and continue cooking.
  12. Remove the cover and increase the flame.
  13. Cook until you get the desired consistency.
  14. Sprinkle chopped coriander and finish cooking.
