A super delicious and super easy payasam for any occasion. Rava & Dates Payasam is made with sooji (semolina) or rava, milk, sugar and dates. The Holy Ramadan is around the corner and this is one of the best sweet dishes you can try for Ramadan.

Rava & Dates Payasam or Rava & Dates kheer (‘kheer’ is the Hindi word for payasam) is a one of the easiest and simplest payasam’s you can ever make.  As I have mentioned earlier, a best dessert for Ramadan and it’s very healthy too. During the Ramadan season many varities of dates are available in the market and make maximum use of these goodies.

Rava is good for diabetic patients, weight lose and rich source of anti-oxidants too. Dates contain various mirerals , vitamins and a natural source of good fiber.

Rava & Dates Payasam Recipe

Ingredients

  • Rava/ semolina – 250 gms
  • Ghee/ butter – 2 Tbsp
  • Milk – 1 cup
  • Sugar – 250 gms
  • Dates – 1 cup, deseeded
  • Cashew nut – 30 gms
  • Raisins – 30 gms
  • Cardamom pwder – 1 Tsp

Directions

  1. Heat up ghee or butter in a medium sized pan and add rava.
  2. Slow roast rava on medium fire for about 5 minutes.
  3. When rava is nicely golden brown in color, add milk into it.
  4. Bring the milk to a boil, reduce the flame to low and continue cooking.
  5. In the meantime, fry raisins and cashew nut in ghee or butter and keep aside.
  6. When the rava is completely cooked, add sugar and dissolve it.
  7. Continue to cook on a slow fire until you get the desired consistency.
  8. Now add the dates and mix well.
  9. Sprinkle cardamom powder, garnish with raisins and cashew nuts and serve.

Note: Adding hot milk to rava will reduce the cooking time and also enhances the flavor.
