Quinoa & Dal Tadka is a superb Vegan dish which is easy to make ,delicious and healthy at the same time. I love dal dishes in general, it could be any variations of dal, now that Quinoa & Dal Tadka recipe.

Quinoa & Dal Tadka

This time around I have decided to make a dal and quinoa combination, which I have tried before and also have not seen many recipes on the same line. I have taken equal quantities of dal and quinoa and cooked well with Indian powdered spices and finished with a typical South Indian tempering.

Quinoa & Dal Tadka Recipe


  • Quinoa -200 gms
  • Toovar dal -250 gms
  • Red onion -1 medium, chopped
  • Poatoes -1 , medium diced
  • Green beans -1 cup, cut 1 inch in lenth
  • Tumeric powder -1 Tsp
  • Chilly powder -1/2 Tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut oil -1 Tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 Tsp
  • Curry leaves -1 sprig
  • Dry red chilly -2 each


  1. Take dal and quinoa in medium sized pot, add water to cover and bring to boil.
  2. Reduce the fire to simmer, add onion and powdered spices.
  3. Add diced potatoes, cover with a lid and continue to cook until soft.
  4. To make the tempering, heat up coconut oil in a skillet.
  5. Once the oil starts to smoking, add mustard seeds and let it crackle.
  6. Then add curry leaves and dried red chilly and let it cook for a minute.
  7. When the quinoa-dal mixture is almost done, add green beans.
  8. Once the mixture is cooked through, remove from fire.
  9. Add the tempering to the quinoa-dal mix and stir in.
  10. Adjust the seasoning and serve hot.
