Murg Saagwala/Chicken In Rich Spinach Gravy is one most famous chicken curries around and a prominent member in every Indian restaurants in and out of India.

A very healthy, rich and flavorful chicken recipe made with chicken cooked in a mild oniontomato-spinach gravy. There are so many variations of this recipe is available and the recipe and I am going to share with you today is the easiest and yet the tastiest versions of all.

Murg Saagwala/Chicken In Rich Spinach Gravy recipe..

Ingredients

  • Chicken -750 gms
  • Spinach – 500 gms, pureed
  • Vegetable oil -1 Tbsp
  • Cumin seeds -1/2 Tsp
  • Whole black pepper corns -1/2 Tsp
  • Onion -2 medium sized, pureed
  • Ginger paste -1 Tsp
  • Garlic paste -1 Tsp
  • Turmeric powder -1 Tsp
  • Chilly powder -1 Tsp
  • Garam masala powder -1 Tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Tomato -2 medium sized, pureed

Directions

  1. Marinate the chicken with chilly powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, ginger paste and garlic paste.
  2. Let the chicken sit in the marination for over night or at least for 2 hours.
  3. Boil water in a pot and cook (blanch) spinach for 2 minutes.
  4. Strain the spinach and shock it in ice cold water.
  5. Strain and puree it in a food processor.
  6. Heat oil in skillet and fry off cumin seeds and whole black pepper corns.
  7. Add onion puree and cook on slow flame for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Add ginger paste and garlic paste, cook for 2 minutes.
  9. When the raw flavor of onion goes off, add in powdered spices such as turmeric powder, chilly powder and garam masala powder.
  10. Cook the spices on slow fire for couple of minutes.
  11. Now add the tomato paste and cook for another 2 minutes.
  12. Add the marinated chicken cubes and mix well.
  13. Pour the spinach puree and cook on a slow fire until the chicken is cooked.
  14. Adjust the seasoning and serve hot.
  15. Enjoy your Murg Saagwala with rice or any Indian flat bread.
