Masala Grilled Tiger Fish

How does the masala grilled tiger fish taste like? seriously, I can’t explain. Yeah! no words would be sufficient enough to explain the taste, the taste is  something you must experience to yourself.  I was absolutely stunned by the taste and I finished them in no time- crispy crust outside and yet juicy and moist inside.

During my recent family trip to Fort Kochi, we went for stroll on the beach and we were  watching the fisher men  using Chinese fishing  nets. We were just looking through the catch and then we spotted these small and exquisite beauties and we were curious about trying it.  We got them home and decided to grill them for our dinner. Let me share the recipe with you…



  • Tiger fish – 4 each
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 Tsp
  • Chilly powder – 1/2 Tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1/4 Tsp
  • Lemon juice- 1 Tbsp
  • Onion – 1 medium, sliced for garnish
  • Lemon wedge for garnish
  • Freshly crushed black pepper corns
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for grilling


  1. Clean and wash the tiger fish
  2. Slit the skin diagonally using using a knife.
  3. To make the marinade, in a bowl, combine the powdered masalas, lemon juice, crushed black peepr corns sand salt.
  4. Apply the marinade well over the fish.
  5. Refrigerate the marinated fish for 30 minutes.
  6. Heat the skillet for grilling, apply oil and cook the fish.
  7. When the fish is cooked on both the sides, serve garnished with sliced onion and lemon wedges.
