Mambazha Pulissery

Mambazham means Mango fruit in Malayalam.  There are so many variations of pulissery is available and mambazha pulissery is one among them.

This curd based, traditional sweet and sour dish calls for sweet small mangoes for the preparation( refer the photo please). In case if you cant get the small mangoes use any other mangoes which are sweet or add sugar.



  • Sweet mangoes- 4-6 each
  • Grated coconut – 100 gms
  • Curd – 150 ml, beaten.
  • Cumin seeds – 1 /2 Tsp
  • Green chilly – 3 each, chopped.
  • Garlic – 4 cloves
  • Turmeric – 1/4 Tsp
  • Coconut oil – 1 Tbsp
  • Fenugreek  – 1/4 Tsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 sprig
  • Dry red chilly – 2 pcs
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 Tsp
  • Salt to taste


  1. Wash and peel the mangoes and set aside.
  2. In a medium sized pot, cook mangoes with turmeric and salt in the water.
  3. Water should be enough to cover the mangoes, cook till the mangoes are tender. While cooking if you the water is less , you can pour water as needed but don’t make it too watery.
  4. Grind together grated coconut, cumin seeds, garlic and green chilly to a smooth paste ( reserve some for tempering).
  5. Add the coconut mixture to the cooked mangoes. Cook for two minutes on low flame.
  6. Add beaten curd , cook for a minute and turn down the flame.
  7. Heat oil in a skillet for tempering. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  8. Add curry leaves, dry chilly, green chilly and fenugreek and cook for a minute.
  9. Pour the tempering over the cooked mango mixture and give a gentle mix to infuse the tempering all over.
  10. Your super delicious mambazha pulissery is now ready and enjoy it steamed rice.
