One of the most simplest side dishes from Southern part of Kerala .Sometimes the most simple dishes taste really great. Kootu Curry / South Kerala Style Koottukari recipe is easy to make with a handful of ingredients. This thick gravy gravy based potato dish is a must in any Sadya. Especially Onasadya kootu curry adds variety and as well as taste to the sadya.

Kootu Curry / South Kerala Style Koottukari is made of potatoes, which are cooked in a typical Kerala style spices. This dish is my personal favorite as it has got a non-vegetarian feel-like taste to it.

The unique flavor of the dish from the roasted powdered spices used while cooking. The turmeric powder, chilly powder and coriander powder is dry roasted before adding it to curry.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Peel and dice the potato and keep aside.
  2. In an earthenware pot, heat  coconut oil.
  3. Add sliced, potato and green chilly.
  4. Saute well for 5 minutes.
  5. Dry roast the powdered spices such turmeric, coriander and chilly powder.
  6. Add the dry roasted powdered spices to the potatoes.
  7. Continue to stir fry on a medium flame for until the spices have cooked well.
  8. Add 1/2 cup of hot water and salt.
  9. Cover with lid and cook for 10 minutes.
  10. Remove the cover and cook until the potatoes become tender.
  11. Adjust the seasoning and serve hot.
