Dal & Cauliflower Soup is a quick and easy dal and cauliflower recipe. Made with red split lentils and cauliflower in an aromatic and semi-spicy spice mix. You can substitute red split lentils with any dal or lentil of your choice.

Dal & Cauliflower Soup

This recipe involves, two steps. First step is to cook the lentil and second step is to cook the cauliflower in a spice mix and then added to the cooked lentils.

Dal & Cauliflower Soup with step by step..

1.Take one lentil or dal and 2 cups of water.

2.Add turmeric and salt.

3.Bring to a boil.

4.Cover with a lid and cook until done (12-15 minutes)

5.When done, remove from fire and set aside.

6.Heat up a skillet, add oil

7.Fry cumin seeds, dried chilly and cloves.

8.Add onion, cook for 2 minutes.

9.Add ginger and garlic paste. Cook for  a minute.

10.Add  chilly powder. Cook for 2 minutes

11.Add cauliflower and cook for 3 minutes.

12.Add cauliflower to the cooked lentils.

13.Cover with a lid and cook for 4-5 minutes. Adjust seasoning.

Ingredients

  • Red lentil or tovar dal – 500 gms
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • vegetable oil – 1 Tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 Tsp
  • Cloves – 4
  • dry chilly – 2
  • Onion – 1/2 chopped
  • Tomato – 1/2 cup chopped
  • Turmeric – 1/2 Tsp
  • Chilly powder -1/2 Tsp
  • Cauliflower -1 cup, medium florets

Directions

  1. Wash and drain lentils (tuvar dal).
  2. Take dal (lentil) and water in a pot.
  3. Add turmeric powder and salt.
  4. Bring to boil.
  5. Cover with a lid and cook over a simmering flame.
  6. Cook until done (12-15 minutes).
  7.  When done, remove from the fire and set aside.
  8. Heat up a skillet, add oil.
  9. Fry cumin seeds, dried chilly and cloves for a minute.
  10. Add chopped onions and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  11. Add chilly powder. Cook for a minute.
  12. Add chopped tomatoes.
  13. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
  14. Add cauliflower and cook for 3-4 minutes over a medium flame.
  15. Now add the cauliflower spice mix to cooked lentils.
  16. Give it a nice mix. Cover with a lid and cook for 5 minutes.
  17. Adjust the consistency. Add water if needed.
  18. Adjust the seasoning and serve.
