Chapathi-the most common bread of India, the bread for the poor, the bread for the rich and the bread for everyone and is seen every part of India.This unleavened flat bread is the most popular staple for many Indians.


  • Whole wheat flour- 400 gms
  • Water to mix
  • Salt to taste
  • Vegetable oil- 1 Tbsp


  1. Put flour in a bowl, add salt andĀ  water.
    2. Mix together until it holds.
    3. Beat and knead well until it forms a compact ball.
    4. Knead dough until it is smooth and elastic.
    5. Cover the dough with a wet cloth and set aside for 30 minutes.
    6. KneadĀ  the dough again and divide dough even sized balls.
    7. Roll out each ball using a rolling pin, dust with flour to prevent the dough from sticking.
    8. Heat up the skillet.
    9. Cook the chapathi for a minute, when small bubbles start to form turn over the side and cook the other side for 2 minutes.

Note: Roll out the chapathi as close to cooking as possible as this will the chapathi from drying out.
